Are you worried about your relationship with alcohol and substances, and wondering what life would feel like substance free? Freedom Institute’s Exploratory Phase can help.

Many of us recognize that our drinking or substance use is negatively impacting our life, but we are not sure we have a problem and may not be committed to the idea of long-term sobriety. FI’s Exploratory Phase provides a chance to explore the role substance use plays in our life and whether we wish to change that role. In a confidential, nonjudgmental atmosphere, we guide you in exploring your relationship with alcohol and other substances and changing unhealthy coping behaviors as they relate to substance use.

The foundation of our Exploratory Phase is our Exploring Sobriety Group, a weekly group that offers clients a safe space to examine their relationship to substances and see what life might look like substance-free. This group requires a minimum commitment of eight weeks and we ask people to try abstinence for that period. Exploring Sobriety Group works as a partnership towards change and relies on Motivational Interviewing, a psychotherapeutic approach that aims to move an individual away from a state of indecision or uncertainty and towards a state of empowerment, enabling them to make positive decisions and accomplish personal goals.

In the group session, a Freedom Institute therapist facilitates a conversation between members of the group, expressing acceptance of how individuals interact with substances, helping them resolve the ambivalence that prevents clients from realizing personal goals and guiding clients in the process of change. We help clients think out loud about their relationship with substances and whether or not it is getting in the way of them living the life they want and, if it is, what they can do about it.

If you are curious about exploring life without substances, but not ready to commit to full time sobriety, it may be worth taking the next step and learning more, please join Freedom Institute’s Ryan Murphy, MS, CASAC, DBT Therapist, and John Roesch, CASAC-T, CIP, for a complimentary information session via ZOOM to learn more about Freedom Institute’s Exploratory Phase.
