A New Approach to Recovery, A New Website: A Letter from Our Chief Clinical Officer, Rachel Russell

Dear Freedom Institute Community,

Always striving for excellence and innovation, Freedom Institute is pleased to introduce our new Phased Approach to Recovery and officially launch our new website.

At Freedom Institute, we facilitate recovery through a continuum of care. Organizing our treatment services into a phased approach will increase access points to compassionate treatment, empower people to address their relationships with substances in ways that fit with their personal and professional lives, and reduce the stigma of substance use problems.

Since our founding in 1976, Freedom Institute’s mission has been to offer individuals struggling with substance abuse or addiction the highest quality outpatient care tailored to their specific needs. We have been unique in our involvement of family members in the recovery process, addressing the needs of the whole family, not just the person identified as having an alcohol or drug problem.

Ten years ago, we made what was then a bold move to integrate Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Relational Family Therapy into our core clinical services to create a new model for recovery. Both modalities are now successfully utilized and also integrated into our Intensive Outpatient Program to provide a comprehensive and highly effective evidence-based approach to treatment.

Today, the majority of our clinical staff has had advanced clinical and/or post-graduate training. In addition to DBT and Family Therapy, areas of expertise on our team include CBT, Psychodrama, EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, Gestalt Therapy, and even Psychoanalysis. This allows our team to cross-pollinate ideas from different theoretical approaches to emotional and behavioral health, thereby offering a richness of addiction treatment that truly helps our clients free themselves from substances and reclaim their lives.

Freedom Institute’s new Phased Approach to Recovery offers options along the continuum of recovery. From our Exploratory Phase, for those who want to explore the role substances play in their lives and whether they wish to change that role, to our Advanced Recovery (Phase III), for individuals who have achieved one year or more of sobriety and want to grow more fully into who they want to be in their lives and relationships, each phase offers various complementary treatment modalities. As people transition through the various stages of recovery, they can collaborate with their clinical team to customize the most effective treatment program possible.

The road to recovery can start in many ways. With our Phased Approach, no matter when or why someone is reaching out for help, Freedom Institute has a way to welcome  them and help them heal.
