Overview:
Clinicians and their mental health came under extraordinary duress during the pandemic. In Creating Connections Utilizing Action Methods, we will delve into how staying connected to each other helps mental health professionals build community, generate support, and stay grounded. We will use Action Methods such as Sociodrama, Psychodrama, and Sociometry to examine issues mental health workers grapple with in their day-to-day work life.

How to stay connected to ourselves and build community:
The past three years of the pandemic have called upon us as clinicians to learn new ways of working and connecting with clients on a digital platform. To varying degrees, we have all experienced challenging emotions and some form of trauma. As we continue to work with and support our clients in their own growth and healing, it is essential for us to do the same for ourselves. Finding ways to connect with each other for nurturance and support is how we care for ourselves, how we make sure we are not running on empty, and how we reduce the risk of burning out, so we can continue to be there for our clients.

During this CE Session we will:

  • Identify and evaluate our levels of burnout;

  • Connect with ourselves and each other to explore the importance of community in preventing burnout;

  • Review compassion fatigue, feeling ineffective, and emotional exhaustion;

  • Provide a place to connect in person and begin to build our internal resiliency through relational support;

  • Discuss how to apply these tools and techniques to our work with our clients.

Objectives:
Through the experiential methods of Psychodrama, clinicians will be able to discuss and practice connecting to ourselves and others in a safe and contained environment. This exploration will allow clinicians to gain insight into their strengths as well as areas where they can use more support.

This CE session is the first training in Freedom Institute's Connection Series to explore various modalities to help us better support ourselves and our clients.
